Lions Camp for Blind and Vision Impaired Youth Lions Youth Camp  July 1 - 5, 2019 (Counselors arrive Sunday, June 30, 2019) Camp History The Kentucky Lions Youth Camp for vision impaired children began in 1982. The camp is made possible by donations to Lions Camp Crescendo by Lions, Lioness, Leo Clubs and other private donations throughout the state of Kentucky and those individuals who donate their time to serve as camp staff. CAMP HAS ALWAYS BEEN FREE TO THE CAMPER! Camper Eligibility Boys and girls, ages 6 through 15, who are blind or have a vision impairment and who are are a resident of Kentucky. Camp Location The camp is located in Lebanon Junction, Kentucky, which is off I- 65 at Exit 105, north of Elizabethtown, and 25 miles south of Louisville. For more information, see our Facilities page. Transportation Transportation may be provided to and from the camp by Lions across the state, if required. Services Services include: • A full time nurse on duty, certified lifeguards • Cafeteria staff serving 3 hot meals a day • Traditional recreational camping activities • Indoor restroom and shower facilities Counselors Counselors are volunteers. Some are Lions, Lioness, or Leos - many are parents, grandparents, college students, vision teachers or friends of counselors. Camp Heart To Heart  Camp Heart to Heart and Camp Freedom July 8 -12, 2019 (Counselors arrive Sunday, July 7,2019) History Camp Heart to Heart was formed in 1999 for children living in the shadows of HIV/AIDS and was dedicated in honor and memory of Lion Tom Welker, PDG. What is Camp Heart to Heart? Camp Heart to Heart is a collaboration between Lions Camp Crescendo, Inc., and other Louisville HIV/AIDS service organizations (House of Ruth, AIM of Kentuckiana, etc.). Camper Eligibility Children, ages 5 - 12 who are living in the shadow of HIV or AIDS. This includes kids who are HIV+, those who have a HIV+ family member, or who have lost a loved one to AIDS. Camp Objectives • To provide a traditional lifetime camping experience to these special children • To promote social growth, self-confidence and self-reliance • To provide an opportunity to share with their peers • To provide opportunities for creative expression Cost - FREE This is possible through private and corporate donations, and grants. Donations help defray expenses related to this project. All donation are tax deductible, if you want to help. Checks should be made payable to Lions Camp Crescendo Inc. and designated for Camp Heart to Heart in the lower left corner of your check. Camp Freedom Camp Heart to Heart and Camp Freedom July 8 -12, 2019 (Counselors arrive Sunday, July 7,2019)     • The Camp Freedom mission is to provide a memorable camping experience for these children in a safe and secure environment while providing a week of respite for the care givers. • The Camp Freedom goal is to provide a camp experience that will last a lifetime and to provide activities to help the children build confidence, learn about teamwork, anger management, and trusting/sharing with others. • Camp Freedom was formed in 2006 by, and is a collaborative between Lions Camp Crescendo, Inc. and Kentucky Foster Care Agencies.  The camp is made possible with foundation grants and donations from individuals, clubs, and companies.  All campers attend Camp Freedom FREE of charge. • Camp Freedom is open to children (ages 6-11) with mild to moderate behavioral, emotional and physical needs, and who are in foster care (with an assigned level of care 1 - 3) or are in the legal custody of their grandparents.   Attendance for the camp is limited to 100 campers. The campers must reside in Kentucky. • Counselors for Camp Freedom are volunteers who have acceptable background checks, and the camper to counselor ratio is approximately 3 to 1, or as needed. Camper activities vary but may include archery and air gun target shooting, arts and crafts, basketball, campfire storytelling, canoeing and paddle boating, fishing, hiking, kickball, swimming, and volleyball.  The week may also include any one or all of the following activities: a carnival day, hayride, movie night, scavenger hunt, talent show and a camper awards program.
